Two Tiders on Outland Trophy watchlist

The Football Writers Association of America just unveiled its top 40 contenders for the Outland Trophy awarded to the nation’s top interior lineman.

Alabama defensive lineman Terrence Cody made the list along with offensive counterpart Mike Johnson. Cody was the only finalist who was also an 2008 FWAA All-American.

The two Alabama players joined eight others from the Southeastern Conference on the watchlist for the award that will be handed out following the regular season. Read more about today’s announcement on the FWAA Web site.

Two-a-days begin in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA — Nick Saban just address reporters with updates from the preseason practice routine. Nothing major to report, but today was the first of the three two-a-day practices dates.

Read more in Wednesday’s paper, but Saban broke down the routine for a typical day in the life of a Crimson Tide football player during August.

The team was on the field for about two hours starting at 9:30 a.m. and will return at 7:30 p.m. That’s not a bad idea considering them mid-day heat that can do a number on even the best effort towards hydration.
