Former Alabama defensive lineman Marty Lyons was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday at a dinner in South Bend, Ind.
Lyons lettered for Alabama during 1976-78 and was part of a pair of national champions. He was all-
Southeastern Conference in 1977 and 1978 and Associated Press first-team All-American in 1978.
In 1992, he was selected to Alabama’s Team of the Century.
According to Alabama’s media relations department, Lyons is the 23rd Crimson Tide player or coach to be selected into the College Football Hall of Fame.
He was the 14th pick in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft by the New York Jets. He spent 11 seasons in professional football with the Jets. He compiled 29 sacks and helped his team make the playoffs in 1982, 1985 and 1986.
