TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — The Crimson Tide never trailed in the second half as Alabama won 59-46 over Charleston Southern on Friday night.

Alabama (5-0) got 22 points from Trevor Releford and nine each from Trevor Lacey and Devonta Pollard.

Just a few quick thoughts:

–Pollard really can jump. He had three dunks. He also finished with seven rebounds.

Carl Engstrom, the 7-foot-1 Swedish center, produced six points and a career-high eight rebounds. He was active, which is good such a big guy. This was his first start of the season.

Trevor Lacey struggled with his shooting and made only one 3-pointer, but he spent a lot of time at point guard, even with Releford on the floor. He finished with nine points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds in 34 minutes of play.

–Alabama’s Rodney Cooper, a 6-6 guard who is the team’s third-leading scorer, didn’t play because of shoulder tendonitis. Alabama coach Anthony Grant said he injured himself last week in the 2K Sports Classic in New York City and hasn’t practiced since then.

–Quote from the opposing coach: “Alabama plays extremely hard, maybe as hard as any team we’ve played,” said Charleston Southern coach Barclay Radebaugh, who referred to the Crimson Tide team, coaches and players as “classy” five times in his postgame news conference.

–Quote from Grant on the technical foul he received when arguing offensive foul call on Moussa Gueye: “I probably overreacted there.”
