In Gene Stallings‘ final Iron Bowl, Alabama sent him out with a 24-23 win decided on late touchdown drive.
Alabama trailed 23-17 with 2:14 to play when it got the ball at its own 26 with 2:14 to play. The Tide drove 74 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown, which came on Freddie Kitchens‘ 6-yard pass to Dennis Riddle with 26 seconds to play.
Jon Brock, who had missed an extra point in a 17-16 loss to Mississippi State, made it this time for the margin of victory.
Kitchens completed 20 of 33 passes for 292 yards, while Riddle rushed for 131 yards and gained 41 more on four receptions.
