Julio Jones scores twice, hits a milestone mark

Julio Jones caught two touchdown passes today in the Atlanta Falcons’ 34-0 win over the New York Giants and went over the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yards.

Jones scored on two second-half receptions and finished with six catches for 74 yards.

For the year, he has 69 receptions for 1,071 yards. According to statistics provided by pro-football-reference.com, this marks only the fourth time in NFL history a former Alabama standout gained 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. Don Hutson had 1,211 for Green Bay in 1942, and Ozzie Newsome had 1,002 in 1981 and 1,001 in 1984 for Cleveland.

–Running back Mark Ingram had 90 yards on 14 carries in New Orleans’ 41-0 win over Tampa Bay. He scored a touchdown on an 11-yard carry in the fourth quarter, and he missed his career high in rushing yards by only one. He had 91 against Indianapolis last year.

Two former Alabama safeties led each team in tackles. Mark Barron had 10 for Tampa Bay, and Roman Harper managed 11 for the Saints.

–Arizona safety Rashad Johnson returned an interception 53 yards for his first NFL touchdown in the Cardinals’ 38-10 win over Detroit. His score gave Arizona a 21-7 lead with 41 seconds left in the first half. He also finished with three tackles and a pass defended.

–The Patriots fell 41-34 to the 49ers, but New England linebacker Dont’a Hightower had eight tackles, two stops behind the line and one pass defended. Patriots defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick had one stop.

–Ravens linebacker Courtney Upshaw had five tackles, two stops for lost yardage and a pass defended in a 34-17 loss to Denver. Baltimore nose tackle Terrence Cody had three tackles.

–Houston defensive back Kareem Jackson had three tackles and a pass defended in a 29-17 win over Indianapolis.

–Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus had a pair of tackles as the Buffalo Bills fell 50-17 to Seattle.

–In the Kansas City Chiefs’ 15-0 loss to the Oakland Raiders, defensive back Javier Arenas had eight tackles and a pass defended. He also returned two punts for 11 yards and one kickoff for 27 yards.

For Oakland, middle linebacker Rolando McClain was declared inactive by the team before the game.

–Linebacker Jarret Johnson compiled five tackles as the San Diego Chargers lost 31-7 to Carolina.

–On Thursday night, Cincinnati defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry scored his first NFL touchdown as the Bengals beat the Philadelphia Eagles 34-13. He picked up a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a score. He has recovered a career-high three fumbles this season.

In addition, he recorded his fifth sack of the year, which is the second most in his career. He finished with two tackles, which is four away from his career high of 23.

For the Eagles, middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans had a team-high nine tackles and one pass defended.
