Each day until the BCS National Championship Game, Daily Bama Blog contributor Brett Hudson will count down to kickoff, giving us bits and pieces of that day’s significance to Alabama and Notre Dame. Today is 19 days until the game, which means Brett is examining the number “19.”
–Alabama has returned 19 kicks this season for 336 yards and one
touchdown coming from Christion Jones against Ole Miss.
–Alabama has had 69 offensive plays go for more than 19 yards
(otherwise known as 20 or more), making it tied for 17th in the nation with Cincinnati and Northern Illinois. Notre Dame’s 59 plays of the same stature rank the Irish in a tie for 47th nationally with
Michigan.
–On the subject of big plays, Alabama’s 32 plays of 30 yards or more rank it in a tie for 19th in the nation with Miami, Ole Miss and USC.
–Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Georgia completed 19 passes each
against Alabama. The Rebels did it on 33 attempts for 138 yards,
Mississippi State did it on 36 attempts for 209 yards and Georgia
found 281 yards on 34 attempts.
–Against Notre Dame, both Pittsburgh and Purdue completed 19 passes. The Panthers did it on 29 attempts for 164 yards and the Boilermakers got 198 yards on 37 attempts.
–When the Irish played Miami in Chicago’s Soldier Field, Notre Dame
completed 19 passes for 211 yards.
–The Irish gave up 19 first downs agaisnt Navy, Michigan and USC.
Eleven of Navy’s 19 came on the ground while nine of USC’s were through the air. Michigan had nine rushing, nine passing and one by penalty.
–Notre Dame earned 19 first downs against Purdue and Stanford,
including 12 on the ground against Purdue.
