Tide in the NFL: Ingram scores a TD in Saints’ win

Former Alabama running back Mark Ingram rushed for 53 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown as the New Orleans Saints beat the Dallas Cowboys 34-31 in overtime Sunday.

He rushed 9 yards for his score in the opening quarter. He also caught a pass for 7 yards.

Also for the Saints, safety Roman Harper had two tackles. Dallas Cowboys safety Charlie Peprah had four tackles.

–Cleveland running back Trent Richardson finished with 53 yards on nine carries in a 34-12 loss to Denver, but he was carted off the field in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Reports say X-rays were taken to look for a possible break, but tests came back negative.

Richardson also finished with 15 receiving yards on three catches. He has 950 rushing yards, which is a Cleveland rookie record. Jim Brown had 942 in 1957.

Browns rookie fullback Brad Smelley had his first NFL catch for 3 yards.

–Baltimore linebacker Courtney Upshaw had three tackles and noseguard Terrence Cody added one in the Ravens’ 33-14 win over the New York Giants.

–Kansas City cornerback Javier Arenas had three tackles and defended a pass as the Chiefs lost 20-13 to Indianapolis.

–Buffalo defensive lineman Marcell Dareus had four tackles and a pair of sacks as the Bills lost 24-10 to Miami. He has 5.5 sacks for the season.

–Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh 13-10 as Bengals defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry had a pair of tackles.

–Houston defensive back Kareem Jackson defended two passes and made four tackles as the Texans lost 23-6 to Minnesota.

–New England edged Jacksonville 23-16 as linebacker Dont’a Hightower had six tackles, including a sack. He also defended a pass. Defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick had a tackle and defended a pass.

–Tampa Bay defensive back Mark Barron had eight tackles, including one behind the line, in the Bucs’ 28-13 loss to St. Louis.

–The Philadelphia Eagles fell 27-20 to Washington as middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans had four tackles, including one for loss.

–On Saturday night, Atlanta receiver Julio Jones had seven catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. That gives him 76 receptions for 1,142 yards and 10 touchdowns for the season.

Don Hutson has the most receiving yardage (1,211) and receiving touchdowns (17) by a former Alabama player, both in 1942 for Green Bay when he was the NFL most valuable player. Ozzie Newsome has the most catches with 89 in 1983 and 1984.
