Alabama went up seven spots in the all-important Ratings Percentage Index after beating Kentucky 59-55 at home Tuesday night.

The Crimson Tide entered at No. 70 and improved to 63rd, according to RPI figured by KenPom.com. Kentucky entered at No. 16 and dropped three spots to No. 19.

The NCAA selection committee uses RPI when it determines the NCAA tournament field, but unlike football and the BCS, we don’t know precisely how much the committee relies on it. Again, unlike football, just because you’re ranked ahead of somebody, that’s no guarantee of anything.
