Alabama football coach Nick Saban was asked about the status of starting nose guard Brandon Ivory since he wasn’t running with the first string this week in practice.
He wouldn’t get specific and won’t mention him when talking about the defensive line.
“(Jeoffrey) Pagan and Ed (Stinson) have played with a lot of consistency,” Saban said. “A’Shawn Robinson has really improved probably as much as anyone. So has Jonathan Allen, who is another freshman who’s played quite a bit. Darren Lake has played pretty well. We’ve had a couple of injuries up front and it’s made us pretty thin, which has give the freshmen an opportunity. They’ve taken advantage of it with how they’ve played. I’m pleased with where they are, but we’d like to get some of these other guys back healthy so we’ll have a little more depth.”
We’ll have to see Saturday if Ivory plays Saturday, or Lake takes the bulk of the snaps. This could be an issue since the Volunteers have a big, experienced offensive line.
Maybe that’s the reason why Saban said true freshman Dee Liner will probably play for the first time on Saturday.
