Safety Ronnie Clark of Calera High committed to the Alabama football team Friday, according to recruiting services.
Clark, a 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, is ranked the No. 9 safety in the nation, according to Rivals.com and 247 Sports. He’s a four-star athlete who has 4.59-second speed in the 40-yard dash.
Rivals ranked him the No. 4 prospect in the state of Alabama and No. 59 in the nation. He is the highest ranked in-state player to commit to the Crimson Tide at this point.
Clark had about 12 scholarship offers to choose from with many SEC schools after him. Alabama was a favorite of his because the program’s run as the No. 1 team in the country.
Calera is 5-0 this season with the No. 1 ranking in Class 4A. He also plays quarterback.
Clark becomes the 21st verbal commitment for the Crimson Tide in the 2014 recruiting class, and fourth defensive back. Alabama remains the No. 1 in terms of recruiting this year by both Rivals.com and 247 Sports.
