VIDEO: Running backs, receivers practice

Alabama is practicing inside today, and before you ask, Mark Ingram was not spotted during the media viewing period. Don’t be confused in the video posted below, the No. 22 is on the scout team. IT IS NOT MARK INGRAM.

Next, here are the receivers led by Julio Jones, Earl Alexander (82) and Brandon Gibson (11) with quarterbacks AJ McCarron (10), Phillip Sims (14) and Greg McElroy (12).

VIDEO: Scott Cochran and a broken blocking sled

Here are two quick looks inside Alabama football practice from this afternoon. First, strength and conditioning guru Scott Cochran makes his rounds, spreading cheer.

Next, defensive line coach Bo Davis teaches the proper technique for hitting the sled. After several reps, the equipment breaks down.

VIDEO: Practice begins for Penn State

It was back to practice this Labor Day afternoon with Penn State coming to town in just a few days. Mark Ingram was not outside with the team during the brief media viewing period.

Linebacker Courtney Upshaw was moving very gingerly on his sprained ankle as you’ll see in the video. Also notice Marcell Dareus working with the defensive ends. He’ll still be out Saturday with that 2-game suspension handed down by the NCAA.

UPDATE: Video now works.

Alabama wins, here's another video

Before packing up and leaving Bryant-Denny Stadium, here’s one final video I’ll post tonight. Here’s a look at Alabama taking the field before the 48-3 win that was hardly ever in doubt. Have a night night. Catch you fine folks tomorrow.

VIDEO: A walk through tailgating on quad

Take a walk with my point-and-shoot camera through the mass of people, food and satellite dishes that make up the tailgating atmosphere on “the quad.”

VIDEO: Running backs (minus Ingram) and receivers

There was no sign of Mark Ingram at Wednesday afternoon’s practice. The Tide practiced indoors on this sunny, pleasant September afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Here’s a quick look at the healthy running backs plus the receivers and quarterbacks throwing a few quick routes.

VIDEO: Step inside defensive game planning

Check out the view opposing running backs might get when they face down Dont’a Hightower on the game field. In the video, defensive coordinator Kirby Smart plays the role of the San Jose State quarterback as he teaches the Crimson Tide linebackers how to read the running plays from the pistol formation. The hardest part about putting this video together is editing out all the naughty language coming from coaches on other parts of the field.

VIDEO: Offensive line and linebackers practice

This might look similar to some of the previous practice videos, but we are limited in where we can go during our brief period inside the fences.

This first one, though, shows some quality coaching time offensive line coach Joe Pendry gave freshman Austin Shepherd.

Second, linebackers and defensive backs get drilled by Kirby Smart, Sal Sunseri and Nick Saban. Notice DeMarcus Milliner (28) working with what appears to be the first team.

A few Wednesday afternoon updates

Relatively speaking, this is one of the most pleasant August afternoons I can recall. So, to celebrate, here are a few updates on stories that have been in the news recently.

  • AOL Fanhouse is reporting Mikhail Torrance is breathing on his own now. The site that’s been on top of this one from the very beginning is saying Torrance suffered a heart attack Friday in Florida. Read the rest of their report here.
  • Dot Davidson made headlines nationally when her campaign doctored a photo involving Nick Saban. Apparently, the false endorsement didn’t do the trick. She did not make the runoff in the Bessemer mayor election after yesterday’s balloting. She got just 13 percent of the vote.
  • Speaking of Saban, how many college football coaches have a profile on Internet Movie Database? That’s IMDB for those in the know.
  • Two former Alabama basketball walk-ons are doing well at the University of New Orleans, according to Sports Illustrated.

Practice resumes, Milliner still sidelined

For the first time since Saturday, the Crimson Tide practiced. Two days separated Saturday’s scrimmage from today’s return to the practice fields.

DeMarcus Milliner was the only  wearing a black non-contact jersey for the injured as Blake Sims was back with the healthy.

And now, some video.

VIDEO: Linebackers, DBs at practice

I did a little experimenting with the new video editor feature on YouTube to condense some of the practice tapes posted on the blog. Let me know if you like it better this way.

First, here’s the linebackers working with defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and linebackers coach Sal Sunseri.

Next, Nick Saban works with mostly defensive backs.

Finally, here’s the result of some more toying around with video editing. I tried to line it up with the music as best as possible.

VIDEO: Offensive line pounding the sled

Check out this close up look at the Crimson Tide offensive line hitting the sleds at Thursday afternoon’s practice. Coming right into your living room is D.J. Fluker (76), Barrett Jones (75), William Vlachos (73), Chance Warmack (65), James Carpenter (77).

More video to come. Stay tuned for that.

The difference a year makes

I blogged earlier about the practice habit issues Alabama is facing these days. To illustrate the difference between the progress this year’s team has made to last season at this time, see the two videos below.

The first is Nick Saban’s news conference following the first scrimmage a year ago. The second link goes to his newser after Saturday’s scrimmage. You’ll see the difference.
