We’re ready for football season, but baseball season is going on, and we thought you might like a short update on a couple of players making noise recently.
Wade LeBlanc has spent much of the year in the Miami Marlins’ minor league system, although he recently won a promotion to the big club as a reliever. A starter his whole career until now, he has worked in seven games, compiling 10.1 innings, eight hits, one walk and no runs. Left-handers who can get guys out while pitching in relief are extremely valuable in the majors, and if LeBlanc can do it, he could carve out a nice, long career.
LeBlanc was drafted by San Diego before being traded in the off-season for catcher John Baker.
Because of injuries, the Colorado Rockies have promoted shortstop Josh Rutledge to the big club. He has taken advantage of the opportunity with a .375 batting average and .708 slugging percentage. In seven games, he has four doubles and two triples.
