FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Bowl Championship Series news conferences get started early today. Notre Dame’s offensive personnel are first up at 7 a.m. Central time, followed by Alabama’s defensive personnel at 8.

Notre Dame is brining offensive coordinator Chuck Martin and players Zack Martin, Tyler Eifert, Everett Golson, Theo Riddick and T.J. Jones.

Alabama will follow with defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and players Dee Milliner, C.J. Mosley, Damion Square, Nico Johnson and Robert Lester.

ESPN’s David Pollack, Desmond Howard and Samantha Steele Ponder will have their own news conference at 8:45 a.m.

If Thursday serves as an indication, Alabama’s personnel will push into ESPN’s time. National reporters mobbed the Crimson Tide offensive personnel Thursday, while the Notre Dame players pretty much had most of their hour to themselves.

Alabama will practice at noon at Barry University. Notre Dame is set for 10 a.m. at Nova Southeastern University.

Thoughts from Wednesday’s Alabama football practice

An ESPN camera crew at Alabama’s practice today.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Alabama worked out in full pads on a mild afternoon today, and just because it was Nick Saban‘s birthday, that doesn’t mean he was any less intense than usual.

We were inside the gates for about 16 minutes, and during that time, he corrected loudly several of the defensive backs briefly for not doing a drill correctly. We have video below.

We also watched Alabama receiver Amari Cooper, who twisted his ankle Saturday against Mississippi State. He didn’t participate in practice during our viewing periods Monday or Tuesday, but today, however, he looked better. He ran through some drills and looked fine although not 100 percent.

ESPN’s camera crew was at practice, filming with reporter Samantha Steele. The network is doing an “Inside the Program” piece on Alabama.

Nick Saban talks Alabama football with ESPN

ESPN’s Samantha Steele spends the day with Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Here are a couple of clips.

In the first, Steele rides along with Saban to work. She mentions it’s his birthday, and he said he had forgotten until his wife mentioned it.

In the second, Saban talks a bit about his team and facing LSU. After that, Saban gets a birthday cake.

Set your DVR: ESPN releases early football TV schedule

There weren’t many answers for Alabama fans looking to lock in game times for the fall, but ESPN still released an early look at some of the games it’ll air on the family of networks.

CLICK HERE to see the entire list.

I found the top of the document the most interesting part. Alabama’s A-Day game is listed as the ESPNU game. The intriguing part: Arkansas’ spring game is on the mothership or ESPN.

That absence of Alabama regular-season games on the lineup doesn’t mean the Tide is shutout from ESPN. The networks don’t announce TV assignments for most SEC games until two weeks before kickoff.

See 'Roll Tide' ESPN commercial right here

There were news reports of an ESPN camera crew roaming the streets of Tuscaloosa filming a commercial this fall.

It looks like they got enough footage for the ad. They sent over a look at the commercial that will debut tonight on your television but right now on your computer. It’s part of the “It’s not crazy, it’s sports” campaign to convince you that ESPN is the channel for you!

Since the darn video doesn’t want to embed properly, just click here to see the commercial.

McElroy a finalist for Rhodes Scholarship

Welcome to November — an especially important month in the life of Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy. He advanced to the final step in the process to become a Rhodes Scholar.

It’s down to the final interview for the fifth-year senior. He’ll go to Birmingham on Nov. 20 for the moment of truth.

Read the print edition tomorrow for more on this.

In another note, the Mississippi State game Nov. 13 is set for a 6:15 p.m. kickoff on either ESPN or ESPN2. That means all of Alabama’s home games except the Iron Bowl will be night contests this season.

Homecoming kickoff for Ole Miss game is …

… not what the university will like. A year after being forced to play a 7 p.m. game on homecoming, this year’s version will start even later at 8 p.m. against Ole Miss.

The television networks announced that decision just a little bit ago after waiting to see the results of this past Saturday’s games.

The game will be televised on ESPN2. Click the “continue reading” button to see the entire SEC television assignment list.

GameDay heading to Columbia

For the second time this season, ESPN’s popular College GameDay television show will originate from the site of a Crimson Tide game.

The king of all networks announced today that its traveling road show will head to Columbia on Saturday for the Tide’s visit to South Carolina. I guess that’s huge news.

The circus came to Tuscaloosa on Sept. 11 when Penn State came to town and the Tide took care of the Nittany Lions 24-3.

Come back later for the full video from Saturdays’ Florida game.

Ezell's impression of Saban first uncovered here

Rob Ezell hams it up in California in this Daily photo by Gary Cosby Jr.

ESPN will take all the credit for televising Athens native Rob Ezell doing a spot-on impression of Nick Saban, but The Bama Blog wants a finder’s fee. It was here that Ezell’s talent was first discovered. Just see the story I wrote about the party trick published back in January:

Is it Ezell or Saban?

By Michael Casagrande
Sports Writer
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Rob Ezell’s talent is both a blessing and a curse.

Most players who can do a spot on impersonation of Alabama coach Nick Saban would keep that hidden, but this Thanksgiving, the backup receiver from Athens took center stage.

In Saban’s home.

In front of the coach.

Saban’s reaction?

“He took it all right,” a laughing Ezell said. “He said I did a pretty good job. Mrs. Terry (Saban), she really liked it. I didn’t want to do it, but Terrence Cody put me on the spot.”

Still, he was hoping to avoid the moment until Terry Saban, Nick’s wife, learned of the skill.

“I did it first when coach Saban was out of the room, but it was almost like a movie, he walked in right at the right time when I was in the middle of it,” Ezell said.

Cody, who called it “a real good Saban impression,” was never worried about the coach’s reaction. “We tried to get him to do it last year,” Cody said. “But he was scared, so we finally got him to do it, and it turned out good.”

See a little more of Ezell’s personality from Fan Day in these videos I shot of the new star and his film crew.  You might remember that third one since it made it into the broadcast.

UPDATE: Here is the video from the broadcast of Ezell’s impression.
