As expected, Wayne County has a first-round bye in Class 1A, while Loretto made the field in Class 2A, when the TSSAA released its high school football playoff brackets this morning.
Thanks to Tennessee’s split-classification format for the regular season, the playoff outlook can be confusing, but it was officially settled today.
Class 1A Wayne County earned a bye as the No. 2 seed in its quadrant. The Wildcats (10-0) will host the winner of Friday’s first-round game between third-seeded Clarksville Academy (9-1) and No. 6 seed Bruceton (4-6) in the second round next week.
In Class 2A, Loretto made the playoffs for the first time since
2002 2004, sealing a berth with Friday’s 14-7 win against Mount Pleasant. The Mustangs (5-5) are the No. 5 seed in their quadrant and will travel to fourth-seeded Cascade (6-4) for Friday’s playoff opener. The winner will face top-seeded Adamsville (9-1) coming off a bye.
The TSSAA playoffs include five rounds with the championship games to be played Dec. 1-3 at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.
