VIDEO: Deshler gets back on track with rout of Colbert County

Usually try to get these videos posted by Saturday mornings. Apologies for the tardiness. A few thoughts from Deshler’s 54-28 win against Colbert County on Friday:

1. Deshler is playing much better than it was during a 1-3 start to the season, particularly on defense. Getting back starting safety Tucker Norwood for this game helped. He had an interception, one of seven Tigers takeaways. Zach Garner had two (INT, FR). The D-line was getting a good push up front and getting hands up to force high throws. Deshler’s defense didn’t give up a touchdown until the game was well in hand.

2. The Tigers (4-3, 3-2) should finish no worse than third in Class 3A, Region 8, barring anything crazy happening. The toughest part of their schedule is behind them. Colbert County (5-2, 3-2) still has to play Madison Academy next week.

3. Colbert County’s Tobias Qualls (No. 16) is good. The wide receiver/corner back has size (6-3, 191) and speed, as you can see in the video below. He had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, had another 40-yard return called back, scored on a reverse and had some good punt returns. Also, he’s only a sophomore.
